2014 Race Report

This year’s Ballydehob 10k was run in almost perfect running conditions – dry, warm and calm. Garrett Lordan of Clonakilty Road Runners took the first spot in 37:51 whilst Margaret Murphy from Ballincollig taking the women’s title in 40.44.

There was a significant increase in the number of juniors, both male and female, completing the 10k run. Alicia O’Neill from Skibbereen AC was fastest female in the under 18 category, with Matthew Carey from Ballincollig being fastest under 18 male.

Almost 200 participants completed the 10k distance either as runners or walkers, whilst a further 42 completed the 3km route. This was the first running of the 3k distance and it was great to see many youngsters and a number of parents participate.

Isaac Soloman (age 12) of Ballydehob and Anna Ni Challanáin (10) from Dublin were first boy and girl across the line in the 3km run.

Once again the Edge Sports Shop in Cork were the generous prize sponsors, whilst Blackwater Motors, Cork, Fermoy and Skibbereen, were t-shirt sponsors. Mizen Bouncy Castles were there for the younger kids, making it a family event for all. Also Brosnans Eurospar of Schull for providing post race snack at the finish line.
